Note: This resolution should not be used for
systems using a USB keyboard.
- Disconnect all USB devices.
- Click Start then right-click on My Computer.
- Choose Properties.
- Click the tab at the top named Hardware.
- Click the button named Device Manager.
- At the bottom of this list, find the selection named. Universal
Serial Bus Controllers and click the plus sign beside it.
- You should now see a list of hubs and controllers. We will remove
these in the next step.
- Right click on the first item in the list under the heading. Universal
Serial Bus Controllers and choose Uninstall from the menu that
appears.
- Repeat the previous step until all items that appear under the Universal
Serial Bus Controllers heading, are gone.
- Click start and turn off computer.
- from the menu that appears choose Turn Off.
- Wait for the system to power off.
- Locate the delete key on your keyboard.
- Press the power switch on the front of your computer and immediately
begin to press the Delete key repeatedly.
- You should now see a blue screen with the title "CMOS Setup
Utility". If you instead see the message "Starting Windows" you will
need to power the system off and try the preceding step again.
- From the main page, use the arrow keys to highlight Chipset
Features then press the Enter key.
- Use the arrow keys to highlight USB Legacy Support then use
the PgUp and PgDn keys to change this selection to Disabled.
- Press the ESC key then the F10 key to save and exit.
- At the prompt that appears type Y and hit Enter.
- The system will now reboot and redetect the USB ports. Seeing messages about new hardware is normal.
- Once back in Windows plug in your USB web camera. It should now be functioning.
- Now plug in the printer and that too should be functioning.
