FIX: Lexmark X73 Installation Problem With Norton AV 2002 Auto-Protect

Summary

Lexmark X73 Printer Does Not Install Correctly In Windows XP While Norton 2002 Auto-Protect Is Enabled

Symptom

After installing the Lexmark X73 printer drivers in Windows XP, the printer fails to work correctly. Repeated installation of the printer drivers does not resolve the problem.

Cause

You must disable Norton AntiVirus 2002 Auto-Protect prior to installing the Lexmark X73 printer drivers in Windows XP.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform the following steps:

Uninstall the Lexmark X73 Printer Drivers
  1. Click the Start button and then click Control Panel.

  2. The Control Panel window appears.

  3. Click the Add/Remove Software icon.

  4. Double-click the Lexmark printer software entry.

  5. Follow the prompts to completely uninstall the Lexmark software.

  6. When the software has been uninstalled, shut down the computer.

  7. Disconnect the USB printer cable from the computer.

  8. Once the USB printer cable has been disconnected, power the computer back on.

Disable Norton Auto-protect

  1. Right-click the Norton Auto-Protect icon located in the System Tray.
  2. Click Disable Auto-Protect.

Installing the Printer Drivers

Install the Lexmark X73 printer software according to the Lexmark Getting Started guide.

Enable Norton Auto-protect

  1. Right-click the Norton Auto-Protect icon located in the System Tray.
  2. Click Enable Auto-Protect.
